Residents of Kumawu Dadease led by their Assembly Member Hon Kofi Adade has petition the office of the National Identification Authority (NIA) to distribute their Ghana Cards within a week or to face their wrath.
According to them, they participated in the mass registration on 16th December 2019 but they are yet to receive their cards from the NIA.
Information gathered from the Sekyere Kumawu District NIA office indicates that their cards have been sent to the Bawku District in the Northern Region, meanwhile they are in Ashanti Region and have nothing common with the Northern part of the country.
Only the National Identity Card (Ghana Card) issued to an individual is being used for registration of SIM cards.
“We registered for our cards on 16th December 2019 and we have currently not received them whiles our banks has given us notification that, we cannot make any transactions without Ghana card and our sim cards too will no longer be active if it has not been merged with Ghana card and we cannot afford to lose any of our particular due to someone’s negligence” Hon Kofi Adade stated in an interview with Ghanatodayonline.com.
The closing date for the registration of Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) cards the usage of details of the Ghana Card has been prolonged to July 31, 2022. A statement dated March 22, 2022, signed and issued with the aid of using the Minister of Communications and Digitalisation, Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful stated the extension of the closing date is to “ensure that each eligible SIM card is captured and we produce a credible database by the end of the exercise.”
As of March 17, 2022, about 14,091,542 SIM cards have been connected to the Ghana Card.
Mrs Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the Minister of Communication and Digitalisation says the Ministry might now no longer extend the set closing date for the nationwide SIM card registration exercise.
Consequently, she stated all unregistered SIM cards might be deactivated by the end of July this year, and counseled cell phone users but to register their SIM cards to do so to meet the closing date.
