The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has demanded the prompt dismissal of DOII Desmond Ackah from his position as Head of Public Affairs for the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).

The request follows claims that personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service reportedly attacked a Class Media Group reporter while they were reporting on the Kasoa New Market blaze on Monday, January 5, 2026.

In a press conference on Tuesday, January 6, GJA President Albert Dwumfour condemned DOII Ackah for what he termed unprofessional behavior in managing the situation.

Dwumfour argued that the GNFS spokesperson’s dealings with the media show he is not suitable for his present position. He charged Ackah with justifying the conduct of the staff engaged with “confidence, insolence, and arrogance.”

“He has demonstrated incompetence and contradicted himself so much. I don’t think the media; our media should ever deal with him; We are serving this notice so that action will be taken immediately. In the worst scenario, he can be seconded or interdicted. We don’t want him there,” Mr Dwumfour added.
