Ghana’s new gold licensing system has authorized more than 240 gold trade licenses, according to Mr. Sammy Gyamfi Esq., the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Ghana Gold Board.
Speaking to Accra’s media, Gyamfi stated that licenses were issued following applicants’ successful completion of the eligibility requirements. On June 21, 2025, he disclosed, the Gold Board received more than 300 applications for Tier 1 Buyer Licences, about 200 for Tier 2 Buyer Licences, 30 for Self-Financing Aggregator Licences, and 15 for Aggregator Licences.
The licensing procedure is still available, he said, even though the deadline has passed. Although they can still apply, interested people and companies must wait for their license to be granted before trading in gold.
The application mechanism has been transferred online by the Gold Board to streamline and increase transparency. All costs are now paid through the Ghana.gov portal, and applicants receive updates via email and their online accounts.
Mr. Gyamfi urged all parties involved to abide by the new rules in order to prevent legal repercussions and promote ethical and lawful gold dealing that boosts the national economy.
