All 443 of the vital medication containers that had been stuck in the Tema Port since May 2023 have now been cleared by the government.
This was revealed by Mr. Ernest Ortsin, Acting Chair of the Global Fund’s Country Coordinating Mechanism.
This comes after the Minority in Parliament gave the government a 24-hour deadline to clear all Global Fund-donated necessities.
The government will remove all 120 stuck containers from the port in two weeks, as the Health Minister pledged on June 14 of this year.
The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) approved the removal of all commodities from the Tema Port, according to the Global Fund.
The only problem was that the goods were received by Central Medical Stores, which could only unload eight trucks or containers each day.
They had to, however, exceed their daily capacity of 16 containers in order to meet their obligations.
A storage and logistics management business called Imperial Health Sciences has already received 47 containers and distributed them to different medical facilities.
