The Government has approved the Bawku mediation report by the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and instructed the prompt return of the opposing chief, Alhaji Seidu Abagre, to Nalerigu under Nayiri’s jurisdiction.

In a formal announcement made on Wednesday, December 17, and endorsed by the President’s Spokesperson, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the government endorsed all suggestions in the report given the previous day, reiterating the Supreme Court’s stance on the legitimate Bawku overlord.

The government claimed that the report offers a “thorough, evidence-based, and future-oriented plan” for enduring peace in the troubled region.

It emphasized the legal position of Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka II as the rightful Bawku Naba.

An essential and urgent order from the government is the removal of the competing leader, Alhaji Seidu Abagre.

“Government will immediately facilitate the safe movement of Alhaji Seidu Abagre to Nalerigu, where he shall remain available to receive the directives of the Nayiri,” the statement indicated.

To tackle the underlying issues of the conflict, President John Dramani Mahama has instructed the creation of a Bawku Revitalisation Fund amounting to One Billion Ghana Cedis (GHS 1,000,000,000).

The fund, allocated from 2026 to 2028, is intended to reconstruct essential infrastructure such as roads, healthcare, education, and irrigation systems to revitalize Bawku as an economic center in Northern Ghana.

A high-level committee led by Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson will oversee it.

The government’s announcement requested nationwide backing, encouraging all groups to embrace the report’s findings “in the supreme interest of peace and national stability.”

This endorsement starkly opposes Nayiri’s previous stance, as he described the mediation process as “orchestrated” and “procedurally flawed,” while strongly rejecting any agreement with the report’s contents.
