According to the Ministry of Education, the federal government owes more than GHC 340 million to Buffer Stock Company’s suppliers.
This information was provided by Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Minister of Education, in response to inquiries from Dr. Clement Apaak, Member of Parliament for Builsa South, in Parliament.
The Minister claims that the government has made some payments this year and is working to pay off its outstanding debts.
Dr. Adutwum reassured the legislature that recent issues with food shortages that affected several senior high schools nationwide are being resolved.
The Minister also revealed that Senior High Schools in hard-hit areas had already begun to inventory their supplies.
“As of July 18, 2022, there is a GHC340,296,866.08 payment obligation to the National Buffer Company, and the government is striving to pay off this unpaid debt.
The Minister said, “However, the government reduced and paid a sum of GHC327,871,809.20 to the National Buffer Stock Company.”
