President John Mahama has stated that in order to drastically cut down on travel time between the country’s largest cities, the government plans to build a new expressway between Accra and Kumasi.

The president said during his Thank You visit of the Upper West Region on Thursday that his cabinet will soon approve “priority projects” as part of the “Big Push” campaign vow made by the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

According to President Mahama, the government is about to approve a dualization program for the nation’s main highways.

“Cabinet will approve priority projects under the ‘Big Push’ infrastructure program. These works includes the dualization of major highways including the Accra-Kumasi, Accra-Takoradi and Accra-Takoradi roads.

“We are also deciding on a new expressway between Accra and Kumasi which will reduce the travel time between the two largest cities in Ghana by about two hours,” The president spoke from behind the podium.

Under the “Big Push” project, he also promised the chiefs and residents of the Upper West Region that his government would give the Techiman-Wenchi-Bole-Wa-Hammile road development top priority.

The president thanked the populace for their support of his December 7 mandate last year and pledged to work “shoulder to shoulder” with them to accomplish his goals.
