According to Lariba Zuweira Abudu, minister of gender, children, and social protection, the price of each schoolchild’s meal will rise from GHC1 to GHC1.20.
Following a plea by caterers for the government to raise the cost of feeding each child, the GH1.20 suggestion was made.
“In 2018, the cost of feeding was increased from 80 pesewas (80Gp) to GH1, and in 2023, GH1.20 has been proposed as the cost per meal per child per day,” she stated.
Lariba Zuweira Abudu stated that the school feeding program has given individuals, particularly women, jobs during a news conference in Accra.
She claimed that the GSFP has provided caterers the chance to make money so they can support their families.
Additionally, the scheme has provided local farmers with a ready market.
The Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection noted that 10,832 public basic schools nationwide employed around 34,350 caterers to prepare meals for 3,801,491 program participants.
She revealed that software had been created to manage the data for her company and monitor caterers’ activity.
According to the minister, school feeding caterers will receive their back pay for the third term of the 2022 academic year this week.
