Gov’t has spent Ghc339 million on National Cathedral building- Finance Ministry

According to the Finance Ministry, GH339,003,064.86 has so far been made available for use in the National Cathedral’s development.

The Ministry also said that a total of GH113,040,654.86 has been paid to the consulting company, Messers Sir David Adjaye and Associates, for the Cathedral’s construction.

In response to a request for the entire amount spent by the government on the National Cathedral, the Ministry sent a paper to the legislative Adhoc Committee that included this information.

The Ministry reports that the Government of Ghana’s contribution to the Cathedral’s construction was GH $25 million as of March 2022.

Additionally, the Committee ordered that Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta clarify the entire energy sector payments to Independent Power Producers (IPPs), the total debt incurred prior to 2020, and the total sum paid to the consultancy firm, Messers Sir David Adjaye and Associates.

Regarding payments made to IPPs, the Ministry reported that a total of GH17.31 billion was made.

IPPs including Karpower, Cenpower, Amandi Energy, Sunon Asogli, Ameri Energy, and AKSA got these payments.

The remaining GH7.31 billion was utilized to pay fuel suppliers for the aforementioned time. Of the total, GH10.01 billion was paid as a deficiency in capacity and GH4.99 billion was used as excess capacity payments.
