In order to pay unpaid allowances owing to nursing trainees nationally, Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia has announced the release of GHS177 million to the Ministry of Health.

The Akufo-Addo administration’s decision to reinstate the nursing trainee allowance has been eagerly awaited, especially following months of delinquency.

Dr. Bawumia emphasized the severity of the situation when speaking at a conference with midwives and nurses in Accra. He also confirmed that the cash will be disbursed on Thursday, March 16, 2024.

“This Thursday, the Controller is transferring GHS177 million to the Ministry of Health to pay the nursing training allowances”.

“So, I have also alerted Dr. Okoe-Boye to be on standby when the money hits the Ministry of Health account, they should move it quickly to the accounts of the nursing trainees so that they will have their alawa. It will drop,” the Vice-President announced.
