Green Ghana Day: My gov’t is committed to environmental protection – Akufo-Addo

According to President Akufo-Addo, his administration is still committed to preserving the environment and will actively look for methods to make the Green Ghana project a success.

He emphasized that every citizen has a responsibility to support efforts to protect the environment and preserve natural resources because they are essential to combating climate change in the nation.

According to president Akufo-Addo they will continue to explore other avenues to fight the deforestation menance “Government will therefore continue to explore all avenues to enhance our forest cover through afforestation and reforestation programme and protect our natural resources through community-based management and conservation initiative”.

He was speaking at the University of Ghana’s annual Green Ghana Day tree-planting event.

In his remarks, the President invited everyone present to plant a seedling in order to help the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources reach its daily goal of planting 10 million trees.

Your contribution for today is to go outside, take a seed, plant it, and see to it that it flourishes.

Lands Minister Samuel Abu Jinapor provided assurance to Ghanaians at the ceremony that the trees planted during the first iteration of the Green Ghana project had survived and are flourishing.

He urged Ghanaians to continue caring for the trees so they could mature.

“23 million of the trees planted in the first two editions of the Green Ghana Day have survived and this year we have the opportunity to add 10 million and more trees to this number,” he clarified.

“The Ministry of Lands through the Forestry Commission will continue to provide support for the nurturing of these trees, while we do so, we entreat each and every one of you to take responsibility for nurturing these trees in your homes, offices and communities for them to grow into maturity.”

He urged Ghanaians to once again help the Ministry to achieve this year’s target by planting trees as different seedlings have been made available in the various offices the forestry commission.
