After nearly ten years on remand while awaiting trial for his alleged involvement in the murder of the late Upper East Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Adams Mahama, Mr. Gregory Afoko was granted bail in the amount of GH₵500,000 with two sureties by the High Court in Accra on Friday, February 21, 2025.
He must provide two sureties, one of whom must be backed by a landed property, the court, presided over by Justice Marie-Louise Simmons, ordered.
Additionally, he is obligated to report to the case’s police investigator. During the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, his prior bail requests had been turned down.
The murder case against Afoko and his co-defendant, Asabke, who was previously found guilty and given the death penalty for conspiracy, is presently for retrial.
A new plea has been entered for the two, and the fifth prosecution witness has already been released. The court, which is presided over by Justice Marie-Louise Simmons, is set to hear the remaining six witnesses.
On May 20, 2015, Adams Mahama, a former NPP chairman for the Upper East Region, is said to have died as a result of them dousing him in acid.
