In his description of the legal action brought against James Gyakye Quayson, the beleaguered National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate in the Assin North by-election, former president John Mahama used an unprintable word.
Mr. Mahama, who has a habit of fiercely criticizing Supreme Court (SC) decisions against former government appointees who worked for him, has done it once more.
The NDC 2024 presidential contender made no apologies in his accusations that the State and the Supreme Court were devising sinister schemes to prevent Mr. Gyakye Quayson from becoming a Member of Parliament (MP).
During a campaign launch in the constituency, Mr. Mahama assured Assin North constituents, mostly members and sympathizers of NDC that, the NDC’s candidate is innocent despite criminal charges the State is pursuing against him at the High Court.
“This is nonsense and just a mere talk and no one can jail Gyakye Quayson. Even NAM 1 through whom Ghanaians have lost huge sums of money has not been jailed and walking free in the country” Mr. Mahama pointed out.
“This NPP administration has gone to indecent lengths to rob the people of Assin North of parliamentary representation to gain an advantage in what has essentially been a hung Parliament”, former president, Mahama disclosed.
After the Supreme Court ordered Parliament to remove Mr. Quayson’s name from its records, Parliament expelled him.
In order to seek Mr. Quayson’s imprisonment, the State, represented by the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, has filed charges against him for perjury and public officer deception.
