Haruna Iddrisu, the former minority leader, has declared that his party plans to utilize Article 97 (1)(g) of the constitution to force members of the majority party to vacate from their positions.

This follows the announcement by these four members that they will run as independents for reelection.

In accordance with Article 97 (1) (g), a member of Parliament must resign from office “if he leaves the party of which he was a member at the time of his election to Parliament to join another party or seeks to remain in Parliament as an independent member.”

Cynthia Morrison, a former state minister and Agona West MP, along with two other sitting members of parliament from the ruling party, are running as independents for reelection.

The makeup of the ruling NPP’s membership strength in Parliament as a Majority may change until new elections are held in those seats to fill the vacancies if the Minority is successful in implementing Article 97 (1)(g).
