As part of the Health Komfo Anokye Project, renovations at the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) are now taking form, with the project being at the about 10% stage.

This comes after the facility’s leaky roofs were completely fixed. The building is presently undergoing a thorough refurbishment and upgrading.

This was discovered on Thursday, February 29, 2024, when Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II began inspecting the project.

The Manhyia Palace office stated that the purpose of the inspection was to provide the Asante Kingdom’s overlord with direct knowledge of the project.

The Asantehene was escorted by Professor Addai Mensah, the Chief Executive Officer of KATH, and Sammy Adu Boakye, the Chairman of the Heal Komfo Anokye Project, who also gave him an update on the status of the work.

After the inspection, Sammy Adu Boakye told Ghanatodayonline.com reporter Jacob Agyenim Boateng that the Asantehene was happy with how the work was going.

He said that the hospital, which used to leak whenever it rained, had stopped leaking as a result of Asantehene’s remodeling project.

“One of the major problems of KATH the fact that, some of the roof could leaked for two weeks any time it rains, now we are happy to inform you that, there was no leakages during the last rain we experienced “.

He disclosed that, the project which is in phases has seen the demolition of A4 and A5 wards waiting for the installation of the necessary equipments.

In November 2023, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, started a fundraising campaign with the goal of earning $10 million for the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) renovations.

As the Asantehene celebrates 25 years since climbing the golden stool, the idea to completely refurbish the 70-year institution will be one of his legacy projects.

Otumfuo, the Overlord of the Asante Kingdom, stated that he was unable to watch helplessly while the condition of the sole tertiary medical center in the Kingdom worsened, endangering the health of his people.

Since the start, hundreds of individual businesses and well-meaning Ghanaians have contributed to the initiative, which has allowed the hospital’s construction to begin in the last three months.
