K.T. Hammond, the Member of Parliament(MP) for Adansi Asokwa Constituency, has claimed that because he doesn’t own a car, he is not aware of the current gasoline rates.

During the committee hearing on the motion of censure against the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta, Mr. K.T. Hammond responded angrily when asked by the Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, if he had observed the current gasoline costs, saying “I don’t buy fuel, I don’t have a car, so I don’t buy fuel.”

Tuesday morning’s public hearing of the committee on the proposal to censure Mr. Ofori Atta got off to a bad start due to disagreements between majority and minority committee members over how to submit evidence.

The Minority Leader, Haruna Iddrisu, and Minority Spokesperson on Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson, who were the first to come before the committee, wanted to provide evidence even before being sworn in.

However, the Chairman, KT Hammond, and other members of the majority opposed their testimony.
The committee’s minority members pleaded for leniency and prompt treatment of the accusations made against the Finance Minister.

“I don’t think we should be that rigid. It appears that all we want to do is create impediments”, the North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa stated.

The majority of the committee members insisted that official notice of the evidence be given before further action be taken.
