President John Mahama’s Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) effort has been criticized as lacking in teeth by former Deputy Attorney General Alfred Tuah-Yeboah, who has stated that he would not answer their call if invited.

“I see ORAL as a toothless institution without the power to investigate or engage in many activities,” he said in response to Sweety Aboache’s question about whether the effort may aid in combating corruption in the nation during his appearance on JoyNews’ AM Show on Tuesday.

“Martin Kpebu (ORAL Committee member), who just spoke, is a private legal practitioner. He doesn’t have the power to investigate, nor does he have the authority to mount prosecutions. So, if Martin Kpebu were to invite me, I wouldn’t attend, even if I were corrupt. And even if I were corrupt, and the Police or EOCO invited me, I would dare not,” In response to Martin Kpebu’s contributions on the show, Mr. Tuah-Yeboah added.

“In my view, they (ORALCommittee) cannot help in any way with the fight against corruption. We have state institutions for that purpose. If we have resources, they should be channelled to these state institutions so they can do their job” the former Deputy Attorney General stated.

On Monday, the president received more than 2,000 allegations of corruption from the ORAL Committee, which was headed by Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the Member of Parliament for North Tongu.

Mr. Ablakwa claims that the majority of the complaints, which were submitted by members of the public, concerned alleged wrongdoing by former government officials.

President Mahama gave the report to Dr. Dominic Ayine, the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, so that he could examine it and take appropriate legal action.

According to the committee, the state may be able to recoup more than $21 billion from state assets that have been stolen, most of which are bungalows and lands.
