A significant number of the hospital projects included in Agenda 111 are scheduled to be inaugurated in 2024, the last year of President Nana Akufo-Addo’s term.

In his speech at the inaugural Physicians and Surgeons Awards, he reaffirmed his goal of making Ghana, by 2030, the center of elite medical care in West Africa, according to citinewsroom.com.

According to him, work is still being done on 86 district hospitals, two regional psychiatric hospitals, and the western regional hospital, all of which are different stages of completion. Of the 89 projects, 52% are completed on average. At certain locations, 70–80% of the work is finished.

“Beyond the building of these new healthcare facilities, my vision is to help make Ghana the centre of excellence of medical care in West Africa by 2030, Leveraging on Ghana’s favourable status as the most peaceful country in the West Africa sub-region, a beacon of democracy and a land of opportunities,” the president stated.

The Ghana Health Infrastructure Project, also known as Agenda 111, was started by President Akufo-Addo’s administration with the intention of addressing inadequacies in the country’s healthcare infrastructure.

According to Simon Osei Mensah, the Regional Minister for Ashanti, the NPP government plans to inaugurate approximately 25 hospital projects in the region in 2024.

The hospital projects, according to the Minister, demonstrated the government’s commitment to giving the local community access to high-quality, reasonably priced healthcare.

He disclosed that some of the Agenda 111 projects, the five VEMED District policlinics, the Afari Military Hospital, and Sewua Regional Hospital are among the 25 hospital projects.

On Monday, December 12, 2023, the Minister stated in an interview with Captain Koda on the morning program Nyansapo on OTEC 102.9 FM in Kumasi that he is positive the Akuffo Addo-led government will finish the hospital projects in the region by 2024.

He underlined that the N Akuffo Addo government has built more health facilities in the Ashanti Region than any other government in the fourth republic.

The Minister stated that the NPP government has started about 32 initiatives in the region’s health sector alone.

It will be a great achievement for a government to complete 25 hospitals in a single region, he revealed, even though they won’t be able to finish all 32 projects as planned by the government.
