The embattled CEO of Menzgold Ghana Limited has said that he will return to the Ghana Police Service and retrieve the 2.5 million Ghana cedis that were sent to them for disbursement.
He claims that by sending the money to the Bank of Ghana, the police committed an improper act.
Speaking on Wednesday’s episode of Morning Starr with Francis Abban, NAM 1 added that he would arrange for his own protection and transfer the money to clients if the police were unable to help.
“The intent was not to give money to the police to distribute. We went to the police because we wanted security. The agreement with the police was to have them provide a desk where we could distribute the money.
“I am surprised the money has been deposited at the Bank of Ghana. I will go back to the police and ask them to give the money back to me because that was not the arrangement we had,” he added
Mr. Mensah continued, saying that “the court has no responsibility to pay my customers” and that he “only contacted the police to give us security.”
The Office of the Attorney-General advised the Police to accept GH₵2.5 million from suspect Nana Appiah Mensah, also referred to as Nam 1, on Friday, October 20, 2023.
The Police Administration stated in a statement that the aforementioned sum has been placed in the Bank of Ghana (BoG) Police Exhibit account for the Court’s review.
The money, according to the Police, is being investigated in connection with petitions against suspect Nana Appiah Mensah, also known as Nam 1, that certain MenzGold Ghana Company Limited and Brew Marketing Consult Limited clients filed before the Accra High Court.
The statement added, “We would like to state that the court would determine the decision on the disbursement of the money.”
