The Minister for Trade and Industry, K.T Hammond says he is not perturbed by a contempt charge levelled against him by the Member of Parliament for Assin North, James Gyakye Quayson.

Ghanatodayonline.com reporter Nana Kwaku Boffah in an exclusive interview with the minister he gave details of the summons “I have received the court summons and I will meet them in court even though they play game on me to serve me with the documents, why will they have to do that but I have accepted it.”

James Gyakye Quayson, the member of parliament for Assin North, has cited KT Hammond, the MP for Adansi Asokwa who also serves as the minister of trade and industry, for disrespect.

In order to have KT Hammond punished for making remarks that he believed to be harmful in a matter that was still pending against the Assin North MP, Mr. Quayson has filed the proper paperwork with the High Court.

In a media interview, Mr. Hammond allegedly accused Mr. Quayson of being guilty of the case he is presently on trial for and predicted that he would spend time in jail.

According to the Assin North MP’s attorneys, the Minister’s purported statements are damaging and could drag the ongoing legal proceedings into disgrace.

“That by the words of the Respondent which have been widely publicized nationally and internationally, the Respondent is violating the right of the Accused/Applicant to be presumed innocent as well as the right of the accused to a fair trial. That the said words of the Respondent are also in contempt of this Honourable Court as they are extremely prejudicial to the lawful process of this Honourable Court,” parts of the writ read.
