Gender is predetermined at birth, and the family continues to be the cornerstone of the country, according to President John Dramani Mahama, who has reaffirmed his commitment to what he called Ghana’s long-standing family and moral traditions.
When Christian Council of Ghana officials paid him a courtesy call in Accra on Tuesday, November 18, President Mahama made it apparent that his stance on issues pertaining to family and societal values is in line with theirs.
“A person’s gender is determined at birth, and the family is the foundation of our nation. That is our position. So there are no questions or equivocations about what we believe,” President Mahama stated.
He went on to say that his opinions align with the Christian Council’s position. He said, “I believe that we are completely aligned with the Christian Council in terms of your belief.”
Additionally, President Mahama supported the Speaker of Parliament’s request that the present House bill be relaid and debated in order to allow for any required clarifications or revisions.
“We agree with the Speaker to relay the bill and let Parliament debate it, and then if there are any amendments or whatever that have to be done,” he said.
He emphasized that the final result will be determined by the decision of the Ghanaian people and Parliament.
“If the Parliament of the people of Ghana endorses the bill, votes on it and passes it, and it comes to me as President, I will sign it,” the President stated.
