Public outcry and charges of dishonesty and ineptitude against the Akufo-Addo Bawumia government have resulted from the recent reappearance of power outages, or dumsor.

Ghanaians are seeking accountability from the administration and doubting its candor about the real reasons of the outages.

Despite the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission’s (PURC) insistence that transformer problems are not the primary reason of the persistent power outages, critics contend that the present government has not offered a credible explanation for them.

In a statement, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Director of Elections and Technology Dr. Edward Omane Boamah questioned what was causing the nation’s recurrent power outages.

“This lack of clarity has led to widespread scepticism among the population.

Many citizens are pointing to the investments made by the previous government led by John Dramani Mahama, including the establishment of additional power generation plants such as the Ameri thermal plant,” he stated.

He questioned why, despite these efforts, Ghana was experiencing power shortages once again.

Moreover, “there are accusations against the government for misleading the public about payments for excess power and shifting blame onto the previous administration.

He argued that if there truly was excess power, as claimed by the government, then why are homes and businesses experiencing outages?” he asked.

Some have compared the current state of affairs to “power diabetes,” in which there is an excess of power supplies but nevertheless a scarcity of electricity in homes and businesses, in light of these developments. This comparison demonstrates Ghanaians’ dissatisfaction and perplexity over the situation of the electricity industry as it is right now.

All things considered, the reappearance of dumsor has stoked public unrest and prompted inquiries into the government’s management of the power supply crisis. These have led to demands for responsibility, openness, and practical solutions to the persistent problems.
