Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector-General of Police, and a few POMAB members visited the Ghana Armed Forces Central Command, the Kumasi Metropolitan Fire Station, and the Kumasi Central Prison on Friday as part of a working visit.
The goal of the visits was to improve ties and promote cooperation in order to keep the Kumasi Metropolis peaceful, law abiding, and orderly.
While conducting a security inspection of Kumasi and its surroundings, the IGP and his team also paid the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II a courtesy call. In order to address their security concerns, the team also met with representatives of the Ghana Union of Traders Association’s Ashanti regional branch.
Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has urged Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, Inspector General of Police, to put strong measures in place to guarantee that the next general elections in 2024 are peaceful.
The Asantehene asserts that Ghana has reached maturity and that appropriate measures must be put in place as a result to stop disturbances during general elections.
During his visit to the Ashanti region, Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police, paid the Asantehene a courtesy call at the Manhyia Palace, where the Asantehene made the statement.
“I will urge you that this year is an election year. This is not the first time we are voting; we’ve always been voting. I urge you all to put in measures to ensure peace in the upcoming election. You must protect the country, It is your duty hence, put in measures for the country to live to that.”
In addition, he directed the police to impose strict measures in an effort to combat the illegal mining threat that has resulted in the devastation of forest reserves and water bodies.
Illegal mining cases have emerged recently, posing a challenge. I’ll beg of you all to assist in stopping that. It has an impact on the water and land areas we have.
Along with giving the Asantehene his word that he would carry on his good work to advance national peace, Inspector General of Police Mr. Damapre also mentioned some of the steps taken to ensure Ghanaians’ safety.
Dr. Akuffo Dampare, who is presently on a working tour in the Ashanti region, thanked Otumfuo and gave him the assurance that the police will keep up their efforts to protect the public.
