Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police(IGP), has reaffirmed that the police and other security services are prepared to collaborate with the Electoral Commission (EC) and all other relevant parties to hold peaceful elections in December of this year.

Prior to the elections, he stated, the EC and the police will collaborate to resolve all of their security concerns.

“We’re here to listen to you and learn about any security-related worries you may have before the elections, and we’re set up to address them all.

“Already, the national election security task force is working with all relevant stakeholders and we will continue to do more to ensure that our country continues to remain peaceful before, during and after the polls. So we are here to assure you that we will address all your security concerns ahead of the polls,” the IGP gave the assurance during a meeting with the Election Management Body (EMB) at the EC headquarters on Thursday.

Madam Jean Mensa, the chair of the EC, praised the IGP and the police leadership for their proactive approach to the impending elections. She expressed confidence that the way the police leadership is handling the election will contribute to increased trust between all parties involved.

The IGP has received appreciation from the Center for Democratic Development for how he has handled by-elections in the nation since taking office.

Dissimilar to Chereponi, Asankragwa, and the other places, the IGP formed the Election Security Task Force and performed admirably in each of our by-elections. There have never been any major problems with any of the by-elections that have taken place.
