Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, the nominee for Deputy Interior Minister, has asked Ghanaians to be cautious about the future of Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
Dr. Dampare’s appointment should be decided by President John Mahama, who has the constitutional power to do so, according to the Lower Manya Krobo MP.
During his Monday, February 24 submission to the Appointments Committee, Hon. Terlabi likened the situation to a football coach strategically choosing which players to substitute.
“As I said, I wish I had that authority, but the appointing authority will be looking at other factors.”
His remark coincides with a public discussion on the IGP’s stance in the wake of the inauguration of the new government. Given his importance in preserving national harmony, some feel that it would be detrimental to fire him, while others support his removal.
“Sometimes you think you’re doing your best as a player, but your coach substitutes you based on what he sees from the bench,” said Ebenezer Okletey Terlabi, the deputy minister nominee for the interior. Therefore, let’s let the appointing authorities handle it,” he said.
