Thomas Nyarko Ampem, the deputy minister-designate for finance, has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy’s continuation and informed the public that there are no intentions to repeal it.

On Monday, February 24, 2025, the Asuogyaman MP who was vetted before Parliament’s Appointments Committee promised to work closely with Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson to obtain sufficient financing for the successful execution of the strategy.

In response to queries regarding Free SHS, Mr. Nyarko Ampem explained that improving its implementation, not cutting funds, is his main goal.

“There is no subtle intention to cancel Free SHS,” he said. I’ll help my minister make sure that education has enough money.

“If Ghanaians, through consensus, agree on a particular direction for the policy, and it becomes government policy, I will fully support it. President Mahama has assured Ghanaians that he will not cancel Free SHS, and I trust his commitment” he stated.
