Minister of Youth and Sports Mustapha Ussif has refuted claims that he is “the worst Sports Minister” in Ghanaian history.

In addition, the Minister justified the government’s decision to spend USD $3 million on Ghana’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) participation.

The Minister disputed the assertion and questioned the criteria employed to evaluate his performance in remarks made at a meeting by Kwabena Mensah Woyome’s Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports, Culture, and Tourism.

“I want to disagree with your statement that as a minister, I am the worst in terms of numbers. I don’t know the numbers you are talking about. You should be able to tell me which data you are using to determine that during my time, I am the worst,” he stated.

Using this opportunity, the Minister also addressed concerns over the USD $3 million that was spent on the Black Stars’ AFCON campaign in Côte d’Ivoire, stating that necessary expenses had been paid by the budget.

During the team’s 11-day stay, they included lodging, meals, transport, medical costs, and logistics and per diems.
