Percival Kofi Akpaloo, the founder and leader of the Liberal Party of Ghana, has stated that he would be willing to initiate negotiations with Mr. Alan Kyeremateng, the leader of the Movement for Change, for the purpose of forming a potential coalition in which he would be considered for the position of running mate.
Mr. Kofi Akpaloo claimed that his party was already gaining strength and had a plan to defeat the NDC/NPP duopoly in the general elections of 2024. He added that with Mr. Alan Kyeremateng joining the team, success might actually be possible given his background.
Asked why he shouldn’t let Mr Alan Kyeremateng to lead the alliance so that he could be the running mate, the LPG leader said his party has become a house hold name in Ghana and for that matter he could win more votes compared to Alan who was appearing on a ballot for the first time. He insisted since no one has won an election for the first time in appearing on the ballor since 1992, it would be fruitless for Alan to lead the alliance of Liberal Party of Ghana and Movement for Change.
Mr Alan Kyeremateng has resigned from the NPP for almost a month after citing skewed internal elections in favour of one candidate and monetisation of their primaries as the major reasons. He has since formed his independent Movement for Change and it has already destabilised the rank and file of the ruling NPP.
Majority leader and Suame MP Hon Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu has already proposed to NPP leadership to start talks to bring the former Trade and Industry leader back to his mother party.
But speaking to the media, Mr. Kofi Akpaloo said the LPG was monitoring the development to take advantage of the crack and ensure Mr Kyeremateng was brought on board.
He said ” the LPG is winning the 2024 election but because politicis is about numbers the LPG would be happy to welcome Mr Kyeremateng on board. The LPG has increased its support base and it is on the verge of wining the 2024 elections. We would only consider him for the running position because I am more popular than him since I have appeared on the ballot a couple of times”.
He has therefore said steps would be initiated from the LPG to see Mr Alan Kyeremateng for the possibility of the alliance.
