A walk has been organized by several constituency chairmen, regional youth organizers, and National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidates to rally support for the choice of Julius Debrah, a former chief of staff, as President John Mahama’s running partner in the general election of 2024.
Hundreds of NDC members and grassroots supporters who agree that Julius Debrah should be considered for the role joined in on the solidarity walk from Ayi Mensah Tollboot to Peduase Lodge.
The New Juaben South Constituency Chairman for the NDC, Selassie Amuzu, spoke to the media at Peduase Lodge to conclude the walk. Speaking on behalf of the constituency chairmen, he asserted that Julius Debrah is the ideal choice to work with John Mahama to overthrow the NPP in 2024.
He claimed Julius Debrah, a successful businessman and politician who rose through the political ranks to become regional chairman, minister, and chief of staff, is the ideal candidate to be taken into consideration for the position due to his competence and youth.
However, he added, the district chairs are prepared to collaborate with the chosen running mate to achieve the party’s electoral success.
Osman Abdullah Nabali, the NDC’s Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer, and Bono Regional Youth Organizer noted that the incumbent New Patriotic Party will undoubtedly choose Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia as its flagbearer, which may have an impact on NDC votes in the northern sector. As a result, the NDC also needs a strong running mate from the southern sector to maximize votes, especially among young people.
He therefore thinks Julius Debrah is the best choice.
“The reason some of us came all the way from Bono and Ashanti regions to come and support and show solidarity is that we are here to plead with our president John Dramani Mahama when choosing the running mate consider our father our boss Julius Debrah as running mate.He has served even John Dramani Mahama beyond reasonable doubt and we know choosing him as running mate will help canvass more votes especially from the youth. Currently if we want to win an election you need the youth to support you and that man is somebody who can work with the youth, come down work with the grassroot and canvass for the party.”
He continued that “now that it is obvious that NPP will be choosing Bawumia as their Presidential candidate, it is obvious that they will be two from the north and they will be campaigning at the north. So it will be something that John Dramani Mahama focus will be at the North. If that will be the case then it means we need somebody who can also work in Southern sector and the middle belt to make sure he canvass more votes for the party in coming 2024 elections”.
Richard Nyarko Etornam, the convener of Friends of Julius Debrah, who planned the solidarity walk, said Julius Debrah has the complete backing of NDC youth to be their running mate because he embodies their dreams.
He emphasized that if Julius Debrah is given the chance to serve as running partner, the party’s youth will be greatly motivated.
