According to the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), Ghana’s year-over-year inflation rate fell sharply to 13.7% in June 2025 from 18.4% in May. This was the lowest rate since December 2021 and the sixth consecutive month of monthly declines.

Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu, a government statistician, explained the slowdown on a precipitous decline in the average cost of food and other necessities. Ghana had 1.2% deflation from May to June for the first time in several months, meaning that June prices for goods and services were lower for customers.

“This downward inflationary trend over the last six months provides some consistency and assurance of real sustained shift in prices,” Dr. Iddrisu said.

Non-food inflation decreased by 3 percentage points to 11.4%, while food inflation decreased by 6.5 percentage points to 16.3%.

Regionally, the Bono Region had the lowest inflation rate at 8.4%, while the Upper West had the highest at 32.3%, driven by food and electricity expenditures.

In order to alleviate inflation discrepancies, Dr. Iddrisu underlined the necessity of using more comprehensive regional statistics.
