The National Communications Authority (NCA) has declared that mobile and fixed data services across the country have been impacted by the outage in numerous undersea cables.
The NCA claims that this outage has impacted the cables in Senegal, Cote D’Ivoire, and Portugal that are in charge of transporting international traffic, which has an impact on the nation’s data services.
“The disruptions affecting multiple undersea cables responsible for carrying international traffic have occurred in Senegal and Cote D’Ivoire and with some disruptions in Portugal,” the NCA stated in a press release dated March 14. Data services all around the nation have significantly declined as a result of this.
Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) were reportedly working nonstop to guarantee that full services were restored, according to the release.
“It is important to note that the Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) have redundancies on other cables and are working around the clock to restore full services. In addition, the MNOs have informed affected customers of the disruptions via various channels,” the release added.
The NCA added that it was keeping an eye on the matter and will update the public on any developments.
Meanwhile, disruptions on several submarine optic fiber cables that enter Ghana have been blamed by the Ghana Chamber of Telecommunications for the challenges people are facing in getting internet service.
The Chamber claims that although some cables are down, others are only providing a small amount of capacity.
Additionally, MTN and Telecel, formerly known as Vodafone, have apologized to their customers and promised to work nonstop to restore internet service.
