Ghana’s electoral governing body, the Electoral Commission, has called on the police to carry out a thorough investigation into the incident involving a man who was arrested in Nsawam with a Biometric Verification Device (BVD).

The statement also says that the police should find out how the device was obtained and make sure that the 2024 elections are safe.

“The Commission urges the Police to do everything in their power to unravel the circumstances surrounding the BVD that was found in the possession of the person arrested on Friday.

“The Commission stands in readiness to work with the Police in its investigations,” the statement assured.

In the meantime, the Ghana Police Service claims in a previous statement that it has notified the EC of the arrest and extended an invitation for them to determine whether or not the device is theirs.

The subject is reportedly in police custody and cooperating with the inquiry.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all stakeholders for their continuous support to ensure security, law, and order during this election period and beyond,” the statement said, concluding the inquiry into the incident.
