An angry youth from Gomoa Dominase attacked two police officers and several medical staff at the Gomoa Potsin Polyclinic after a patient who was receiving treatment there died.
The deceased patient, identified only as Ato, 35, was taken to the Gomoa Potsin Polyclinic after he passed away in his home on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at approximately 5:00 p.m.
On life support, he passed away at the facility this morning.
After the death, a few family members—among them young Dominase community members—ran into the facility and attacked the staff.
Windows and other hospital equipment have been vandalized.
There were also assaults on two members of a police team that was sent to the scene.
The circumstances made the patients fearful.
In an interview with an eye witness Kojo Poku, who was taking care of his wife at the facility, described the scene as horrifying.
Dr. (Med) Vlad Nkegbe, the facility’s medical superintendent, has denounced the violence and urged the police to apprehend and charge those responsible.
The angry young people who attacked staff members after a patient died upon admission should be arrested and prosecuted right away, according to the Gomoa Potsin Polyclinic’s management, which is located in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region.
