The Attorney General’s office has dismissed Mr Richard Jakpa’s plea to strike out the accusations against him, calling it an extension of his public theatrics aimed at discrediting the prosecution.

The Attorney General’s affidavit, which opposes Mr. Jakpa’s request, goes into length on this position.

In his request, Mr. Jakpa accused the Attorney General of misusing his authority to pursue a case against him.

He stated that in order to force him to testify against Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Minority Leader and the initial accused in the case, Attorney General Godfred Yeboah Dame had approached him at strange hours.

The Attorney General’s office disputes all of Mr. Jakpa’s claims in the document, stating that the case is supported by “cogent evidence unearthed after painstaking investigations conducted.”

According to the affidavit, Mr. Jakpa’s allegations are baseless and intended to raise unwarranted questions about the court’s capacity to administer justice.

Mr. Jakpa’s motion, according to the Attorney General’s office, is a continuation of the accused’s public strategies to discredit the prosecution and cast doubt on the fairness of the legal system.

The Attorney General stated that he has been extremely professional throughout the case, even in the face of individuals connected to the accused’s constant assaults on his integrity.

“The depositions in the affidavit in support of the instant application are laden with spurious allegations which are carefully and mischievously calculated at creating unnecessary anxiety about the capacity of the court to dispense justice in this case,” the AG argued.

In his opinion, the “instant application is an extension of the public theatrics the accused persons have resorted to in a bid to discredit the prosecution of this case and cast doubt about the integrity of the proceedings in this Honourable Court, all of which the Attorney General has so far observed utmost professionalism about, in spite of the persistent insults and abuse to his integrity by people associated with the accused persons.”
