Former Works and Housing Minister Samuel Atta Akyea has expressed worries about the temperament of former Assin Central MP Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, cautioning that if he were to become president, his violent personality could be dangerous.
In an interview with UTV, Atta Akyea made it clear that his worries are not about personal hostility but rather about qualification for the position.
“I have no issues with Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, not even a single one. However, leadership consists of many factors. I am concerned about the man’s temperament. I fear he could even assault a cabinet minister; he has a bad temperament. There is nothing he shows patience with, and he does not know how to handle matters behind closed doors,” he said.
The former minister emphasized that public popularity and financial savvy are not enough for effective leadership.
“The temperament of a president should include shock absorbers, someone who can absorb pressure, not someone who always believes he has an issue with others,” Atta Akyea noted.
He acknowledged Agyapong’s achievements as a businessman but questioned whether they could be translated into successful political leadership, especially in light of his age and experience.
He continued, “I think we can support him as a businessman, but when we consider competence, temperament, intellectual prowess, and vision, the question remains: at his age, how do you tame him?”
During the NPP party elections, Atta Akyea also responded to allegations of internal manipulation. “No one had a plan to rig the election in favor of Bawumia, and the NPP did not attempt to do so.” He said that each contender had agents at the various voting places.
The former minister’s remarks coincide with continuing debates about temperament and leadership abilities as essential requirements for national office.
