Daniel Asiedu was convicted of robbery and murder after eight years of standing trial. The jury, consisting of seven members, reached a 4-3 not guilty judgment.
On February 9, 2016, the defendant was charged with the murder of Joseph Boakye Danquah Adu, a former Abuakwa North member of parliament.
The testimony of eight witnesses was used by the prosecution, which was headed by Principal State Attorney Sefakor Batsa.
Samuel Berko Sarkodie, the deceased MP’s driver, the MP’s security guard, Apraku, Kennedy Kuranchie’s neighbor, George Amofa, Kuranchie’s brother, the third prosecution witness, and Abigail Marfo, a woman whose home Daniel Asiedu allegedly took a bath following the horrific crime, were among the witnesses.
Principal State Attorney Sefakor Batsa encouraged the jury to convict Daniel Asiedu in her closing remarks, stating that all of the evidence provided to the court and his arguments indicate that he committed the crimes.
During cross-examination, Daniel Asiedu, among other things, informed the court, “The Bible says that even Goliath was overpowered by David.”
Daniel Asiedu, also known as Sexy Don Don, fatally stabbed JB Danquah multiple times, according to all of the prosecution’s evidence.
However, Yaw Darkwa, the accused’s principal attorney, maintained his client’s innocence. He pointed out that the prosecution had failed to establish his client’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
The seven-member jury arrived with a 4-3 judgment on both charges following five hours of deliberation.
Of them, three found Daniel Asiedu guilty of robbery, while four found him not guilty. Regarding the murder charge, the same conclusion was made.
The jury is hung as a result of their choice. Lydia Osei Marfo, the presiding judge, dismissed the jury and announced that the case will be retried.
