State prosecutors’ request to discontinue proceedings against the second and third accused in the extradition case involving social media influencer Frederick ‘Abu Trica’ Kumi has been decisively denied by the presiding judge, Justice Bernice Ackon, who refused to approve the motion and clearly separated the court from the decision.
In response to the situation, Robert Ishmael Aggrey Amissah, the lawyer for the second defendant, Lord Eshun and Bernard Aidoo, used a biblical analogy to illustrate the court’s stance.
“We have come to meet Pontius Pilate in court today,” he stated, explaining that although the state had applied to withdraw the charges, the presiding judge “refused and washed her hands off the case.”
As a result, the legal standing of the two co-defendants is still uncertain, as the court has chosen not to officially end the proceedings against them.
At the same time, the lawsuit involving Abu Trica, who has been charged by a US court in a romance scam scandal, persists. The Gbese District Court postponed his case to February 2, 2026, after which he exited the court premises.
Simultaneously, the defense has launched a wider legal challenge against the extradition process. Mr. Amissah revealed that his legal team submitted a request to the High Court on January 20 seeking bail for the three accused individuals
“We have also filed additional applications to quash the entire process, as the illegality involved cannot be allowed,” he stated.
Everyone is currently anticipating the upcoming court hearing for Abu Trica, 34, set for February 3, as the outstanding High Court applications and the uncertain situation of the co-defendants persistently overshadow the proceedings.
