The National Labour Commission (NLC) has summoned the Judicial Service and the Ministry of Finance to appear before it due to a conflict with the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) regarding overdue salary payments.
In a letter dated January 14, 2026, signed by Acting Executive Secretary Dr. Bernice A. Welbeck, the Commission stated that it received a notification of planned industrial action from JUSAG on January 13, 2026.
The notification, dated January 12, expressed the association’s frustration with the delays in the payment of eight months’ salary arrears from January through August 2025.
The outstanding debts led JUSAG to indicate its plan to initiate industrial action if the issue is not resolved.
NLC has therefore asked the Judicial Secretary and the Ministry of Finance to deliver a status update on the pending claims within three working days of receiving the communication.
Pursuant to Section 139 of the Labour Act, 2003 (Act 651), the Commission has organized a hearing for all involved parties on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at 2:00 pm.
The NLC urged JUSAG to halt any intended industrial action and work with the Commission’s intervention by participating in the scheduled hearing, which seeks to settle the conflict peacefully and maintain industrial harmony within the Judicial Service.
