The Kofi Annan International Peace Training Centre (KAIPTC) Deputy Commandant, Air Commodore David Akrong, has reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to preventing vote-buying, voter intimidation, and electoral fraud as Ghana gets closer to the general elections in 2024.
Speaking on November 25 during a KAIPTC-hosted training session in Kumasi with the theme “Ghana’s 2024 Elections: Enhancing the Capacity of Women and Youth in Elections,” Air Cdre Akrong emphasized the Center’s proactive efforts.
He clarified that KAIPTC is preparing young people and women to act as election observers in order to support the legitimacy and openness of the electoral process.
The training is a part of larger initiatives to equip disadvantaged groups to actively participate in democratic governance and guarantee a peaceful and fair election.
“It is important to know that election observers play a vital role in detecting and preventing election fraud, such as ballot stuffing, and voter intimidation. By reporting irregulates and inconsistencies we can help ensure the integrity of the electoral process.
Your role as an impartial observer is crucial to ensuring the credibility and legitimacy of the electoral process. failure to maintain impartiality can lead to the erosion of democratic norms and social rest.”
