Citing issues with accommodations, medical staff at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) have declared preparations to go on strike on Wednesday, March 13, 2024.
More than 20 physicians got eviction warnings for their existing residences, which prompted them to decide to go on strike.
After an emergency conference, the physicians decided to move forward with the strike as a show of support for their impacted colleagues.
Members are allegedly being evicted from their bungalows, which are being sold to private developers, according to the Association’s leadership.
The Ghana Medical Association is supporting the strike, which would mainly affect new admissions because all physicians have promised to follow the Association’s position.
Doctors were allegedly given a one-week ultimatum by the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council to leave their current residences.
