Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has promised Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng that he will be available for investigations, according to Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin.
After informing the Chief of Staff, Ofori-Atta has been receiving medical care in the United States since early 2025.
He was formally declared a suspect on February 12 by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) in four high-profile corruption investigations, including those involving Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML) and the National Cathedral project. Additionally, the OSP said that the raid on his home was a sham.
Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng declared Ofori-Atta sought during a news briefing and urged him to come back right away so he could be questioned. He threatened to use legal action to force his return if he didn’t cooperate.
Speaking to Parliament on Thursday, February 13, Afenyo-Markin said: “In the morning of February 13, I had a lengthy meeting with Ken Ofori-Atta. He has been traumatized by the adjective [fugitive] being applied to him. However, he remains aware of the presence of his God. He’s going through some medical procedures.
“Within a reasonable time, I’m sure he will come. I will also engage the Office of the Special Prosecutor, engage constructively, and assure him and his office that if there was any miscommunication, I, the leader of the Minority, am assuring him that the man will make himself available.
“He left the country with permission, he would come, and if there’s anything that has to be investigated, he will make himself available” Minority Leader added.
