Former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta is no longer wanted, according to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).
On February 17, 2024, the OSP formally announced that former Finance Minister Kenneth Nana Yaw Ofori-Atta was wanted in relation to several allegations pertaining to corruption.
Additionally, the OSP released a warning to the public asking for details regarding his whereabouts.
The notification states that Ken Ofori-Atta is wanted for interrogation in connection with multiple transactions that resulted in financial damages to the state. Among these are the contentious National Cathedral project, the Ghana Revenue Authority’s (GRA) collaboration with Strategic Mobilization Ghana Ltd., the ECG-BXC contract termination, ambulance procurement agreements, and the use of tax refund accounts.
However, the OSP revealed in a statement released on February 18, 2025, that Mr. Ofori-Atta’s attorney had written to them with a precise date for his return to Ghana.
“On 18 February 2025, Mr. Ofori-Atta transmitted a communication through his lawyer to the OSP by which he stated a definite date of his voluntary return to the jurisdiction. This marks a major shift from Mr. Ofori-Atta’s previous intention of remaining outside the jurisdiction indefinitely.
“Consequently, Mr. Ofori-Atta has been removed from the OSP’s list of wanted persons and the OSP ceases to consider Mr. Ofori-Atta a fugitive from justice pending his voluntary return to the jurisdiction circa his stated date,” the OSP stated.
