Kennedy Agyapong, a presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has stated that one of his top priorities as president will be to maximize Ghana’s agricultural potential.
He claims that despite having enormous arable lands, particularly in its northern regions, the country is not making the most use of them.
Agyapong stated during a Metro TV interview that Ghanatodayonline.com was monitoring that if elected president, he would grow the agricultural industry to the point that Ghana could feed the whole African continent.
“In my vision, I will use 5 northern regions and Afram Plains to feed the whole of Africa. We have arable lands here and in the north (yet we) are saying that we are poor. We are not poor; we need a push. We need enlightenment, people to give us confidence.
Because all we can accomplish with this land is large-scale farming and irrigation, these areas will eventually have agro-processing enterprises.
Because we have the land, I think that around 50% of Ghana’s industry should be located in the north,” he remarked.
Kennedy Agyapong, the representative for Assin Central, stated that he will also concentrate on expanding the tourist industry, which has been ignored by previous administrations, including the current NPP one.
