Samuel Pyne, the mayor of Kumasi, visited a few examination centers in the city to motivate candidates for today’s Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) to perform well on the papers they will be writing over the following five days.
The exams will begin today, July 8, and run through Friday, July 12, 2024.
Hon. Pyne gave the candidates advice on how to avoid cheating on exams.
In addition, he reminded them to maintain discipline during the test and to make sure their writing was clear.
The mayor gave advice, telling them to “remain calm and confident as you sit to recall what you’ve learned to memory.”
From Monday, July 8, to Friday, July 12, 2024, 9,274 BECE candidates from the Kumasi Metropolitan area will take the exam along with candidates from throughout the nation.
Judith Mensah Pamford, the Metro Education Head of Planning Unit, Mr. Nicholas Bassaw, the Metro Education Head of Monitoring and Supervision, Mr. David Oppong, the Metro Education Director, and Mr. Francis Dwira-Darko, the Metro Coordinating Director, accompanied the Mayor on his visit of the exam centers.
State Experimental M/A, Kumasi Senior High Technical School, Opoku Ware Senior High School, and St. Hubert’s Senior High and Seminary School are among the examination centers that the Kumasi mayor and his entourage visited.
In his pep talk, Hon. Pyne prayed for their success while reassuring them that the government’s Free SHS Program is prepared to aid them and mold their future.
In addition, he exhorted them to work hard and take advantage of this chance since it would set them up for success in the future.
“I hope you pass well to take advantage of President Nana Akufo-Addo’s Free SHS Policy after this exam. Write well, pay attention to instructions and directions from your exam supervisors,” the Mayor said.
The Mayor reminded candidates that the examination is the first step in their careers.
“How you perform will determine your future,” Hon. Pyne stated.
Approximately 4,789 girls and 4,485 boys, out of the 9,247 candidates, are taking the exam at 35 centers throughout the Metropolis.
