Kofi Baah Agyepong, the CEO of Ghana’s Youth Employment Agency (YEA), has formally resigned from his role with effect from January 24, 2025, citing personal obligations and goals as the cause.
Agyepong considered his time as CEO of the agency for the last two years, describing it as “an honor and a privilege” in a letter of resignation to President John Dramani Mahama.
“I am formally tendering my resignation as the Chief Executive Officer of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA), effective 24th January, 2025,” the letter stated. “However, I have decided to step down to focus on personal commitments and aspirations.”
As he expressed confidence in the agency’s future accomplishments, Agyepong also wished the President continued wisdom and strength in his service to the country.
Agyepong led important programs during his time there that increased Ghanaian youths’ entrepreneurial and vocational abilities and addressed youth unemployment. He worked to lower unemployment rates and provide opportunities for youth nationwide during his tenure at YEA.
“Within reach on all matters that require urgent attention and consideration,” he said, assuring a seamless transfer.
Mr. Agyepong’s retirement occurs at a time when the Youth Employment Agency is still playing a crucial role in addressing Ghana’s pressing youth unemployment problem. As the agency pursues its mission, his departure creates a large leadership void.
Agyepong’s successor has not yet been named by the incoming administration.
