President John Mahama has appointed Nathan Kofi Boakye, a retired Commissioner of Police (COP), to the position of Director of Security Operations at the Presidency.
Prosper Douglas Bani, a former interior minister, was also named the president’s national security advisor.
Charles Kipo has been appointed Director-General of the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), and Abdul Osman-Razak, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), has been appointed National Security Coordinator.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the President’s acting spokesperson, stated in a statement released on Wednesday, January 15, that the President believes that these important appointments to the country’s security apparatus demonstrate his dedication to guaranteeing both national security and the safety of all Ghanaians.
Before the President was formally sworn in, Kofi Boakye and Prosper Bani were part of a temporary six-person security coordinating team headed by former Chief of Defense Staff Lt. Gen. Peter Augustine Blay (Rtd.), former Minister for National Security Kofi Totobi Quakyi, former National Security Coordinator Larry Gbevlo-Lartey Esq., and Brigadier General Fuseini Iddrissu (Rtd.).
