Kotoko supporter Nana Pooley stabbed to death at Nsoatreman match

After violent altercations broke out after Asante Kotoko’s Ghana Premier League Matchday 19 match against Nsoatreman FC at Nana Koramansah Park, the team reported the terrible death of one of its supporters.

Hostile altercations on and off the field marred the match, which concluded in a 1-0 loss for Kotoko. When players from the opposing teams collided, tensions increased and the referee sent out four red cards. After the final whistle, the situation got even more out of control, leading to violent clashes between opposing supporters.

Kotoko revealed in an official statement that one of its supporters died as a result of his injuries at Sunyani Hospital after suffering fatal injuries during the violence that followed the game.

Kotoko said that their team was attacked by some of the home fans as soon as they entered the stadium and vehemently denounced the violent incidents.

The violence intensified when Kotoko’s Head of Media was hit by an item and had a serious ear damage. The Kotoko goalie Mohammed Camara was also physically attacked by some fans who stormed the field and threw objects at him.

There have also been reports of attacks during the pandemonium on Kumasi media people and traveling fans.

Kotoko has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to look into the violence right away and bring those who are involved to justice.

Kotoko voiced its profound concern about the continued occurrence of hooliganism in Ghanaian football and cautioned that players, officials, journalists, and supporters are all seriously at risk from such situations.

In addition to the fatalities, Kotoko reported serious damage to important team equipment. In the chaos, laptops, technical team communication devices, and other vital audio-visual equipment were damaged.

To such disasters in the future, the club has called for tighter security at league sites and promised to work fully with the GFA.
