President Akufo-Addo expects that the refurbished Kumasi International Airport in the Ashanti Region will be finished and fully operational by May.
He also revealed that the airport would now be called Nana Agyemang I International Airport.
In the Northern Region, Tamale Airport will also be replaced by Yakubu Tali International Airport, he said.
He made this point clear in his State of the Nation address on Tuesday, February 27.
According to him, the Kumasi International Airport, which is currently 98% complete, will serve as a significant hub for regional connectivity, trade, and tourism in the Ashanti Region and beyond.
He claims that the government’s efforts to complete the airports demonstrate its determination to position the country as a leader in superior aviation on the African continent.
“We have also intensified our engagement with our external bondholders on the principles of transparency, fair treatment, consistency with the IMF debt sustainability analysis, and good faith. We are focused and committed to accelerating the process. Mr. Speaker, we are committed to concluding the external debt restructuring process as soon as possible, so we move past the crisis” President Akufo-Addo stated.
“This will enable us to complete substantially projects that have been constrained due to financial challenges. In the meantime, some of the 13 priority projects have been transferred onto the GOG budget within the same fiscal space to ensure their completion. This will enable the Kumasi International Airport, which is some ninetyeight (98%) complete, to be completed by May” he added.
