The Kwadaso Municipal Assembly, through its Department of Agriculture, celebrated this year’s National Farmers Day in a grand ceremony held at Apatrapa R/C School on Friday, December 5, 2025.
The event, themed “Feed Ghana, Eat Ghana, and Secure the Future,” brought together farmers, traditional leaders, stakeholders, and government officials to acknowledge the vital role farmers play in national development.
Mr. Bright Atawura, a farmer from Agric Nzema, was crowned as the Municipal Best Farmer, taking home a tricycle, cutlasses, weedicides, knapsack sprayers, Wellington boots, and a citation.
The Overall Best Farmer, Mr. Bright Atawura, shared his inspiring journey in agriculture. He has more than 20 hectares of maize across Kwadaso and Obuasi, in addition to vegetables, cassava, and cabbage.
Mr. Atawura appealed for irrigational facilities in nearby stream in Kwadaso to support all year farming. He also called for modern agricultural machinery such as processors and dryers, and urged the youth to venture into farming as a viable way to reduce unemployment and social vices.
Speaking at the event, the Municipal Chief Executive for Kwadaso, Hon. Eric Asibey, described Farmers Day as an important occasion dedicated to recognizing the hardworking men and women who feed the nation. He presented awards to the Overall Best Farmer, Female Best Farmer, and several outstanding institutions.
He encouraged farmers to continue adopting improved farming practices and assured them of the Assembly’s ongoing support to boost agricultural productivity.
The Chief of Nyankreniase, Nana Adu Gyamfi Kunanim Barima Kɛseɛ I, also addressed the gathering, applauding farmers for their dedication. He appealed to the government to improve road networks and supply farm machinery to make farming more efficient. He disclosed that he harvested over 100 bags of maize last year, emphasizing the need for increased investment in agriculture to ensure food security.
The celebration concluded with a strong call for modernization of the agricultural sector, enhanced infrastructure, and supportive policies that empower farmers to secure Ghana’s future food needs.
