Members of the new government have been exhorted by Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, the founder and general overseer of Nicholas Duncan-Williams Ministries, to keep their connections consistent and not let their present position of authority alter them.
He pointed out that President John Mahama and his spouse have maintained consistency in their interactions with other people, and that their supporters ought to follow suit.
“This President and his wife, they are consistent; they don’t change. What you seek is what you get. Please don’t change. Don’t let the position you are entering or the influence you acquire change you, because your boss and his wife are consistent—they don’t change, whether they are in opposition or in power,” the clergyman advised.
Rev. Duncan-Williams said that if the administration follows his advice, “God will blow your mind and will use you to advance the cause of this nation.” He was speaking at the President’s inaugural National Prayer and Thanksgiving Service in Accra on Sunday, January 12.
In Ghana and throughout Africa, he added, “lack of love for the country” is a contributing factor to poverty and corruption. He emphasized how important it is for those in positions of authority to show love for the people and the country.
“You will never take advantage of the people you love; you will not exploit the people you love. So, I want to say that this President and his wife love this country. All of you coming into new positions, please love this country, love the people of this country, and God will bless you,” he added.
In addition, he conveyed his faith in the incoming president’s capacity to steer the country out of its economic difficulties and convert Ghana into a desirable destination for its foreign-born residents to return to, work in, and support the country’s growth rather than looking for chances elsewhere.
